A teenage girl died in the lobby of a sheriff’s station after shooting herself with a deputy’s gun on Sunday evening.
The juvenile, who was 17 according to some news reports, had knocked on the door of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) in the city of Industry, California, at about 7:30 p.m., authorities said.
But an altercation broke out and the girl was able to grab a deputy’s gun from its holster during the scuffle. She died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.
Newsweek is attempting to reach out to the LASD seeking further information and comment.
