Colombia’s most needed drug trafficker and the chief of the nation’s largest felony gang has been captured.
Dairo Antonio Úsuga, higher generally known as Otoniel, was seized after a joint operation by the military, air pressure and police on Saturday.
The federal government had supplied a $800,000 (£582,000) reward for details about his whereabouts, whereas the US positioned a $5m bounty on his head.
President Iván Duque hailed Otoniel’s seize in a televised video message.
“That is the largest blow towards drug trafficking in our nation this century,” he stated. “This blow is barely similar to the autumn of Pablo Escobar within the Nineties.”
