The Special Investigations Unit announced Wednesday it had assigned two investigators and two forensic investigators to the case.

According to an SIU media release posted online, Kingston police responded to a call about a woman in mental distress at an address on Bath Street at about 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday and attempted to communicate with her.

Approximately 15 minutes later, a call was made to 911 reporting that a woman had fallen from a balcony.

Police exited the building and located the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the SIU said.

A post mortem was scheduled for Thursday, it added.

The SIU is an independent government agency tasked with investigating the conduct of police officers, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
