The world’s largest Jurassic pterosaur – a 170-million-year-old winged reptile – has been discovered protruding from the rocks of the Isle of Skye in Scotland

In 2017 PhD pupil Amelia Penny noticed its sharp-toothed jaw in a layer of historic limestone on the coast.

That preliminary discovery has now been adopted up with detailed examination of the fossil skeleton, displaying the flying lizard had a 2.5m (8ft) wingspan.
