It did not take a genius to predict Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD), would smash many records.

Given the rabid anticipation for the album, which was released on April 19m from Swift’s millions of fans— known as Swifties—and her long history for breaking records, TTPD was widely expected to do the same.

The releasewas a surprise double album and Swifties have been working overtime since to unravel potential bombshells about Swift’s past relationships with Matt Healy and Joe Alwyn, to a potential reference to current boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

In the meantime, TTPD started annihilating streaming records, including previous ones set by Swift herself and it has the potential to break many more.

Spotify

Swift’s 10th studio album Midnights previously held the record for the most-streamed album on Spotify in a day at around 185 million and also most-streamed album in a week (785.26 million).

Swift absolutely smashed Midnights achievement with TTPD by getting more 300 million streams in one day, Spotify revealed on its social media.

But Swift was not done breaking records on Spotify, she also managed to set the record as the most-streamed song in a single day, with “Fortnight” her song featuring the rapper Post Malone.

Even before its release, TTPD became the most pre-saved album on Countdown Pages, which is a Spotify feature that lets subscribers preview track lists before an album release.

It broke records on other streaming sites as well, including Apple Music where TTPD became the biggest pop album of all time by first-day streams and on Amazon Music, where it earned the position of most-streamed album on its first day alone.

Billboard

Looking forward, TTPD could help Swift tie with Jay-Z for the most #1 albums on the U.S. Billboard charts. If it hits the top of the charts, she will have had 14 No. 1 albums, the same as the Brooklyn rapper.

Only The Beatles are ahead with 19 number one albums on Billboard’s rankings.

Swift could also extend her record for the most total weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart for a female artist and a solo artist—her albums have spent 69 weeks at number at the top, and only The Beatles have surpassed that record at 169 weeks.

If she does hit number one, which is quite likely according to research by sports betting site VegasInsider.com, Swift will not only extend her record for the most consecutive #1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, but also the most consecutive albums to debut in the top spot.

The Billboard charts are updated on Tuesday morning, but it might not take until the following Tuesday to find out if Swift extended her record for selling more than 500,000 copies in the first week. She has had 10 albums sell more than 500,000 copies in the first seven days.

It could also be her seventh album that sells more than 1 million copies in its first week. Aside from her 11 studios albums, Swift is re-recording her earlier albums known as Taylor’s Version, and has released four titles so far, (Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989). Swift re-recorded those albums because manager and record label owner Scooter Braun sold the rights to her music without her knowledge.

International Album Charts

Around the world, Swift has the potential to break records, including in the United Kingdom where she would tie with Madonna as the female artist with the most number ones.

If she reaches the top of the charts across the pond, it would be her 12th time doing so and only trails behind Robbie Williams (14) and The Beatles (16).

In Ireland, Swift would move ahead of Bruce Springsteen to have the most top spots on the Emerald Isle as a solo artist. They currently have 10 chart-leading albums each, but TTPD could edge her ahead of the legendary rocker.

If Swift’s new album goes to #1 in Australia, she would become the female artist with the most top albums Down Under, breaking her current tie with Madonna.

TTPD would be Swift’s 13th number one album in Australia and would put her two behind the current title holder, Jimmy Barnes who has 15 #1 records there.
