The University of Southern California’s pro-Palestinian valedictorian has hit out at the university for “rewarding hared” by barring her from speaking at this year’s commencement ceremony.
Provost Andrew Guzman announced that Asna Tabassum’s commencement speech was canceled in a message to the student body on Monday, saying it was “necessary to maintain the safety of our campus.”
It reportedly came after complaints from students, alumni and others, who viewed Tabassum’s pro-Palestinian social media posts as antisemitic.
In a statement, Tabassum said: “Anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian voices have subjected me to a campaign of racist hatred because of my uncompromising belief in human rights for all.”
