Cats usually have a reputation for being aloof, but a kitten called Cali recently went viral on social media for the opposite reason.

In a post shared on TikTok earlier in April under the username kevinfigman, the ginger kitten’s owner explained that she is actually the clingiest cat.

“I think I win the price for the clingiest pet in the world. Don’t believe me? Let me show you!” he can be heard saying in the clip.

To prove his point, he takes Cali off of him and puts her on the floor, telling her to stay. But about 23 seconds later, she climbs back on top of him.

A caption shared alongside the hilarious clip explains: “My cat is extremely clingy. At least she loves me.”

The poster told Newsweek that Kali, named after “Cali,” the Colombian city where his family originates, is a one-month-old kitten that was found in the garbage at a construction side when she was about one week old, and he’s taken care of her since then.

“She’s very affectionate and she loves the attention as you can see from the video. She loves being held and sucking on people’s fingers. She has recently learned to climb things so she’s been discovering where she can get on top of and so far her favorite thing to do is climbing on the sofa and taking naps,” he said.

“She is also obsessed with sleeping inside my crocs for some reason. She is very curious about the dog at my mom’s house and she loves to run around the house with him.”

The poster added that it’s not only his kitten who is clingy, as he hates leaving her even for a minute.

“The problem is that I hate leaving because she’s so sweet and I feel bad so whenever I can I bring her with me while she’s still young and not crazy or too jumpy,” he said.

Newsweek previously reported on whether cats actually love their owners, and it turns out that they indeed do! In fact, even though they’re known for being independent and sometimes aloof, they do nonetheless feel very strongly for their humans.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 15.7 million views and 3.3 million likes on the platform.

One user, Cheesito!, said: “That’s how they act when they’re kittens. When they grow up, they don’t even want to breathe the same air as you.”

DR3ADED wrote: “Everyone wants a clingy cat until they yelling at 3 a.m. just because they aren’t getting attention.” And Kirby’s Warp Star added: “Man I would be so happy to have a clingy cat.”
