A Belarusian athlete who refused orders to fly house early from the Olympics has safely arrived in Vienna, Austria’s overseas ministry has confirmed.
Krystina Timanovskaya, 24, left Tokyo earlier on Wednesday and can journey on to Warsaw after Poland granted her and her husband a humanitarian visa.
The row began after she criticised coaches on social media, however he advised the BBC her actions weren’t a political protest, saying: “I really like my nation and I did not betray my nation.”
