Bette Midler has bashed Donald Trump on social media, sharing a widely-circulated post that describes the former president as “a troll,” who has “no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth.”

Down and Out in Beverly Hills star Midler has long been publicly critical of the former president, who is the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee.

Over the weekend, the musician and actress took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a post credited to a British writer called Nate White, who back in 2019 wrote a lengthy response on social Q&A website Quora to the question: “Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?”

“A few things spring to mind,” the response started. “Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no [honor] and no grace—all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. [Barack] Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.”

“Trump is a troll,” the post continued. “And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults—he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.”

The writer opined that Trump “punches downwards—which a gentleman should, would, could never do—and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless—and he kicks them when they are down.”

“He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of s***,” the response continued. “His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum.

“God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes [Richard] Nixon look trustworthy and George W. [Bush] look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws—he would make a Trump.”

“If being a t*** was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set,” the post concluded.

“This is brilliant,” Midler wrote in response to the X account Republicans Against Trump sharing the post. “I will be breaking it into shorter segments later so you don’t throw up your hands at its length. You’re welcome. Not ‘Not a problem.’ An actual ‘You’re welcome.'”

Newsweek has contacted a representative of Trump via email for comment.

Also over the weekend, Midler shared a meme that included photos of Trump and late cult leader Jim Jones and read: “What’s the difference between Jim Jones and Donald Trump? Donald Trump would charge you for the Kool-Aid.”

In 1978, Jones instructed his more than 900 followers in the Peoples Temple cult—including more than 300 children—to drink cyanide-laced Flavor Aid in what is now known as the Jonestown Massacre.

Earlier this month, Midler also questioned claims that Trump’s campaign raised more than $50 million during a fundraiser held at the Palm Beach, Florida, home of billionaire investor John Paulson.

“The Trump campaign *says* they raised over $50M in one night,” Midler wrote at the time. “I don’t believe it, not for a second. No f****** way; the only thing that weasel has never grossly overestimated is his pants size.”

According to Trump’s campaign, the event raised $50.5 million, almost doubling the $26 million that President Joe Biden’s campaign said it recently raised at an event with former Presidents Bill Clinton and Obama at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.

Following the event, video footage was shared on X showing Trump speaking about how Americans want change as his wife, Melania Trump, stood by his side.

“The rich people want it, the poor people want it, everybody wants change,” the onetime real estate mogul said. “The country is really doing poorly. We’re a laughing stock all over the world. We’re gonna get that changed very quickly.”
