Video footage revealing Billie Eilish’s comments to Kylie Minogue about some guests at the People’s Choice Awards has gone viral on social media.

The singer-songwriter was among a host of stars at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, for Sunday night’s awards show. Over the years, the ceremony has celebrated talent across entertainment, including those in the digital realm.

Eilish received nominations for Pop Artist of the Year and TV Performance of the Year, winning the latter for her role in the acclaimed satirical thriller Swarm.

However, she got social media users talking with a private statement that she was caught on camera making at the star-studded event.

As a camera hovers, Eilish is seen talking to Minogue and is seemingly heard to tell the Australian pop icon: “There’s so many, like, TikTokers here.” She appears to add the words “no need,” to her comments after using her thumb to point behind her.

While Eilish covers her mouth in an apparent move to keep her comments private, the camera picks up the audio in the clip, which was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by Pop Crave early Monday. As of press time, the six-second clip has been viewed more than 1 million times in the hours since its upload.

Newsweek has contacted a representative of Eilish via email for comment.

The post divided opinions among X users, one of whom wrote: “Very weird considering TikTok is the driving force behind their music.”

“Girl, they are not going to [steal] your fame nor the show, calm down,” commented another.

“I’ve been telling y’all she’s not as humble as she tries to pretend she is,” another critic of the star said.

But many other X users sided with Eilish, with one supporter saying: “I’m sorry but she’s so real. Why are they inviting Z listers when A listers are also here?”

One X user quipped that “even celebrities are so over TikTokers,” while another post said: “She said separation of church and state! I respect it.”

Observing Eilish’s delivery in the clip, one X user said: “The way she covered her mouth & lowered her voice to say TikTokers like it was a swear.”

Though she lost out to Taylor Swift in the music department at the awards ceremony, Eilish beat the likes of Meryl Streep (Only Murders in the Building), Jon Hamm (The Morning Show), and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), among others, in the TV category.

“I want to dedicate this to [Swarm co-star] Dominique Fishback because that show is all about her. She brought her whole cooch into that show,” Eilish said as she accepted her award. “And she really carried the hell out of it.

“She taught me everything I know. That whole experience I owe to her. She deserves this more than I do. She’s incredible, she is beautiful, she is talented, she should be cast in everything forever.”

Eilish has had a busy awards season this year, having received multiple nominations for her Barbie track “What Was I Made For?” Among the accolades she has collected in recent weeks are a Golden Globe and Grammy Award.

The track also made the cut for the upcoming Academy Awards—one of eight Oscar nominations for Barbie. Its other nods include Best Costume, Best Production Design, Best Picture, and Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as two for Best Original Song (“I’m Just Ken,” performed by Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling, plus Eilish’s track).
