John Barnett, the 62-year-old Boeing whistleblower who was found dead in South Carolina over the weekend, had previously told a family member he might be found dead, with authorities claiming he committed suicide but not to believe it, according to local network ABC News 4.
Police are investigating after Barnett was discovered with what police termed a “self-inflicted” gunshot wound in a hotel car park. He had been providing evidence in a lawsuit against Boeing after first publicly raising safety concerns with the BBC in 2019.
Newsweek is unable to independently verify the claim made by the reported family friend in the interview.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated shortly.
