The California State Treasurer’s Office is involved in a FBI investigation, local news station KCRA 3 reported.
The documents are part of a federal grand jury subpoena on a case that is yet to be made public, the station reported.
A spokesperson for State Treasurer Fiona Ma confirmed to KCRA 3 that her office was co-operating with a law enforcement agency seeking documents.
