An unusual mixed breed has captured hearts after her owner shared pictures of her online.

Kiki is a Belgian Malinois-Aspin mix who was affectionately dubbed by her owner Robert as a “Wish.com Corgi” or “FrankenShepherd” thanks to her distinctive appearance.

Robert’s girlfriend Lis brought Kiki all the way from the Philippines to their home in Edmonton, Canada, spanning three flights and over 70 hours of travel time.

“We couldn’t leave the dog in the Philippines—she’s an important family member,” Robert told Newsweek.

Thankfully with plenty of chicken nugget treats, cuddles and pets, she made the journey of over 6,900 miles and now lives happily in the capital city of the Canadian province of Alberta.

But it’s her unusual shape that prompts the most attention toward her—with short legs and a long body, and a large shepherd-type face.

“She’s like a little optical illusion—shepherd face and stumpy legs,” Robert said, before explaining what really gives her the look that has seen her likened to a German shepherd or corgi. “On our dog walks, people are always confused when they see her—is she a corgi? A mini Shepherd? Where is the rest of her?”

Amazingly, Kiki isn’t any of the breeds she is often likened to, instead a breed mix including a common Filipino street dog.

“Kiki is a Belgian Malinois-Aspin mix. Aspin is short for ‘Asong Pinoy,’ a Filipino street dog,” Robert explained. Around 7 years old, Kiki entered their lives during a particularly difficult moment for Lis, when her father passed away, making her an even more important part of the family.

Robert and Lis often share Kiki’s antics on social media under the handle @hello_kiki_yeg on Instagram. Here they share all of her adventures, from sunset walks to checking out the snow and plenty of dressing up.

Recently Robert decided to share a picture of her on Reddit in the r/rarepuppers subreddit, where people post pictures and videos of unusual dog breeds and breed mixes.

Here she was a hit, and Reddit users were drawn in by her distinctive features. Sharing two adorable pictures of Kiki, Robert received an outpouring of affection from fellow dog lovers on Reddit.

“100% cute pup,” one commenter said, while another wrote: “All I see is a good doggo!”

Another commenter said: “His head is so majestic, the rest of him cute.”

Kiki’s owners were delighted by the positive attention: “We’re surprised by the attention, but it’s been great to interact with others who enjoy their share of rare puppers,” Robert said.
