Conservative personality Candace Owens was recently criticized by an organization she previously said “started” her.

On Monday, the David Horowitz Freedom Center, a conservative organization, issued a statement slamming Owens and said that despite previously supporting Owens, it no longer could after she “began giving platforms to anti-Israel voices like Andrew Tate, a Muslim convert who said that ‘ISIS are the real Muslims because ISIS do exactly what the book says.'”

“Instead of focusing on the meaningful activism and defense of American values that brought her to our attention, Candace Owens has become obsessed with her own fame, stirring up drama to compensate for a lack of real achievements,” the organization said.

“Her comments about Israel and her promotion of people like Andrew Tate are part of a pattern. Candace tackles a subject she knows nothing about, never bothers to learn anything about it, and then rides the backlash by playing the victim to generate more fame and money.”

In 2016, Owens attended the organization’s annual Restoration Weekend event, where she said, “This really is the conference where everything started for me.”

“I started my career, my political career, on YouTube making just funny, satirical videos, and I got an email from David Horowitz inviting me to this conference, and let me just tell you what a big deal it was for me. I had no connections whatsoever,” she said at the event.

As the statement mentions, Owens recently made several comments about the war between Israel and Hamas militants, prompting some backlash from other conservatives, like Ben Shapiro, who has expressed strong pro-Israel opinions.

In a video shared to X, formerly Twitter, Shapiro is heard calling Owens “disgraceful.” Owens previously said that she was opposed to “genocide,” prompting many social media users to suggest that she was speaking about Israel and Hamas.

Owens also recently shared two bible verses on X, including one that said, “you cannot serve both God and money.” The post promoted Shapiro to respond by saying that if “taking money from The Daily Wire somehow comes between you and God, by all means quit.”

Owens currently works as a personality for The Daily Wire, which was founded by Shapiro.

Newsweek reached out to Owens via email and X for comment.

“The David Horowitz Freedom Center wishes to express its deep disappointment with Candace’s ignorant, hateful and morally obtuse remarks about Israel and the Jews. But, of course, it’s not just about the Jews. The Jews are the canaries in the mine. The West is next and America above all,” the center added in its statement.
