A ragdoll cat called Kevin has left internet viewers in stitches after his mom caught him on camera engaging in a very unusual activity that quickly turned him into a social-media sensation.

In the video shared on TikTok last Friday, under the username @thefacepalaceuk, the fluffy, gray cat can be seen jumping up toward the ceiling and then grabbing the metal grid lampshade, swinging sideways as if he was having a lot of fun.

Of course, the hilarious clip is accompanied by music, and you’ve guessed correctly; it’s Sia’s 2014 hit song “Chandelier,” which happens to describe exactly what Kevin the cat is doing.

Most cat owners are familiar with their felines’ love for climbing things and sitting in the highest spots in the house, but what makes them behave this way?

Pet Townsend Veterinary Clinic in Port Townsend, Washington, says that there are multiple causes for this behavior. Firstly, perching in high places is instinctual for cats, and can also provide them with a sense of ownership and territory. It could also be that your feline is curious to see what’s up there, or perhaps they are just playing and having fun.

This behavior is usually nothing to worry about and is common to most cats. However, the Pet Townsend Veterinary Clinic website says that the only time you should be concerned is if your cat is jumping up near hazardous things like the stove, which could accidentally hurt them.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 381,000 views and more than 24,800 likes on the platform.

One user, Georgia Twining, commented: “I was gonna get this light shade but I am absolutely not now cause my cat is like yours.” And Kirst posted: “Did you know that Sia actually wrote this song about her?”

Allicat_77 wrote: “I have a Lynx point ragdoll boy too, and he doesn’t know he can go higher than an inch off the ground!! So this is hilarious and surprising all at once!!”

Bubble Heath said: “I am just wondering what the thoughts were before during and after.” And madi angel added: “A typical night out.”
