A cat called Ori has left the internet in stitches after a clip of her reaction to smelling a dog’s breath went viral on social media.

In the hilarious clip, shared on TikTok in November by the pets’ owner, under the username u/Kevin2306, the grey tabby cat can be seen playing with the dog on the bed when she decides to inspect his mouth. Very quickly she realizes it’s a bad choice, making a disgusted face as if she’d smelled something extremely stinky.

The viral post came with a caption that said: “My Cat Thinks My Dog’s Breath Stinks!” The poster, Kevin, told Newsweek that their cat, Ori, is about 2 years old, while her dog sister Ziggy is almost 15.

“Ziggy is perfectly content to lounge around the bed all day while Ori plays all around her, he said. “Well it was at this moment that Ori noticed Ziggy doesn’t spend too much time brushing her teeth, and she REALLY wanted to make sure!”

If you are wondering whether your dog needs their teeth brushed, the answer is yes. VCA Animal Hospitals experts say that more than 80 percent of dogs over the age of 3 have periodontal disease, an inflammation or infection of tissues around the teeth. This starts out as gingivitis caused by plaque and often progresses to involve the bony tooth sockets.

Experts suggest brushing your pup’s teeth at least three times a week to help remove plaque and prevent tartar accumulation, for at least 30 seconds each time.

However, you should not use human toothpaste to brush your dogs’ teeth. It contains ingredients that should not be swallowed by dogs, because they can cause an upset stomach or digestive disturbances.

“Some human toothpastes contain high levels of sodium which may even make your pet ill, while others may contain xylitol (artificial sweetener), which is toxic for dogs.”

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Reddit. It has so far received over 54,700 upvotes and 340 comments on the platform.

One user, RustyU, commented: “It’s the flehman response. Kitty is really analyzing the dog stink.” And RulerOfNyaNyaLand said: “This actually made me laugh! The expression on the cat’s face is so funny, I can hear the cat thinking, ‘Ew!”

ITookYourUsername-_- added: “I honestly did not expect this to be as laugh-out-loud hilarious as it is. That cat isn’t just a bit irritated, it’s downright straight-up disgusted and that face is priceless. Thanks so much for sharing.”
