Ottawa police tweeted two hours earlier that they were “are aware of a bear in the Centrepointe area and are working with partners to determine the appropriate course of action.”

Police did not specify any locations but asked citizens to to remain vigilant and not to approach the animal if it was spotted.

In April, police were criticized after a bear was shot and killed after wandering into a residential area of Kanata.

Police said officers worked diligently to safely remove the bear from the area, “but unfortunately, after exhausting all available options, it became clear that the animal could not be safely relocated.”

“Regrettably, the bear had to be put down to ensure the safety of the residents in the surrounding area. We understand that this is not the outcome anyone would have wanted, but it was a necessary action to prevent harm in our community.”
