Heartache comes every time you have to say goodbye to your pet. It doesn’t matter if you’re only gone for a few minutes while running errands or if you’re going on vacation, you want them by your side constantly and the worst part is knowing they’re missing you just as much.
For one college student, that heartbreak happens every time she returns to campus. She has to say goodbye to the family and the beloved cat who can’t go with her. One might think the cat would be fine since the rest of the family is there to offer companionship, but she misses her just as much.
In a recent TikTok video posted to the account @alyssawalter.s, the cat figured out how to drop in and say hi. She climbed on top of the fridge, placed herself in front of the home security camera, and sat back on her hind legs. Her front paws started waving up and down. The cat was sending a hello through the camera.
The text on the video reads: “When your away at college but your cat knows you can drop in on the cameras.”
This college student’s mom sent her the video of her cat trying to wave at her, prompting her to immediately hop on and see the cat through the camera’s app. But, unfortunately, the cat stopped by the time she got on, she wrote in the comment section.
At least she now knows the cat thinks about her and with this specific camera, she’s able to say hello back for the cat to hear. However, it still can’t be easy. Knowing your pet is sad and misses you would bring on instant tears. That’s the price one pays to check in on pets through a security camera.

How Viewers Reacted
The heartbreaking TikTok clip, which had over 9 million views and 2 million likes, left everyone sharing their feelings. People claimed they couldn’t stomach being away after seeing their pet doing something similar.
“This would actually destroy me,” commented one viewer.
“I would be going to college online from home,” said a second.
Another added: “I’d immediately go home omg.”
The creator posted a follow-up video, which can be seen here, that shows what it looks like to her when the cat is saying hello. And this clip is bringing tears to people’s eyes, just as the original video did.
