Dallas Cowboys fans have been begging owner Jerry Jones to do something after the team was very quiet during the free agency frenzy that occurred a month ago. The team lost significant star players like Pro Bowl tackle Tyron Smith, Pro Bowl center Tyler Biadasz, and running back Tony Pollard.
All three players left significant holes in the Cowboys’ roster, and it still did not lead to Jones making any moves to bring in veteran replacements. While everyone has been scratching their heads trying to figure out what Jones was up to, it looks as though the team is finally looking to make a move.
According to longtime NFL analyst Josina Anderson, the Cowboys are meeting with Ezekiel Elliott ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. Well, that’s to say the team is meeting with a representative for Elliott.
Anderson posted on X, stating, “I’m told the Cowboys are currently meeting with RB Ezekiel Elliott’s representative around the facility a day before the NFL Draft, per source.”

The Cowboys have a running back room that Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaugn, Royce Freeman, and Malik Davis — all of which are not the kind of three-down back the team needs. However, a reunion with Elliott could help to jumpstart the team’s efforts on the ground.
Elliott was drafted by the Cowboys in 2016 and went on to post 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns on his way to receiving an All-Pro designation. Despite losing the Offensive Rookie of the Year award to Dak Prescott, Elliott was recognized as one of the most dynamic players in the league.
Elliott spent the next six seasons racking up a total of 8,262 yards and 68 touchdowns with the Cowboys on a 4.4 yards per average run. The offensive output for Dallas was special with Elliott and Prescott, but that came crashing down after the 2022 season.
Elliott had a down year in 2022 (comparable to his career with the Cowboys) of 876 yards and 12 touchdowns, resulting in his release in 2023. He then signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots.
Elliott joined a team and offense that was a mess, but he still managed to secure 642 yards and 3 touchdowns. Despite people believing the eight-year running back is past his prime, he is still a productive back and veteran that would bolster any run game.
The Cowboys reuniting with Elliott would be incredible, and it could also add a proven player to one of the weaker units the team has. Granted, Dallas might still consider drafting a running back in the draft, but having Elliott would take a lot of pressure off Jones.
Fans might also be jumping for joy to see Elliott return after ultimately being mishandled by Jones and the Cowboys organization.
