Deaf Dog Found Abandoned, Tied Up Sleeps 17 Hours After Being Rescued

A bittersweet TikTok video of an abandoned deaf dog left tied up outside a shelter has brought viewers to tears after she received a peaceful and loving end to her life.

In September 2017, Honey was found tied to the door of an animal shelter with no note, and based on the photos shared in a March 19 TikTok video, she looked terrified. Someone the deaf dog knew and trusted completely abandoned her—an unfortunate reality that happens in the United States daily. Nearly 6.5 million cats, dogs and other household pets are surrendered to animal shelters every year, according to the World Animal Foundation.

Thankfully, Honey had luck on her side when a woman known on TikTok as @goldhawkfarm stepped up and took her home. Honey felt at ease instantly, sleeping for 17 hours after she first arrived, curled up with her owner’s sweatshirt, which she preferred over the blankets.

The video highlighted Honey’s short but beautiful and full-of-life months at her adopted family’s home. The dog showed her family she could play with toys. She radiated confidence after getting a good groom. She got the medication she needed and lived like a queen, with heating pads to help ease her pain.

Honey was spoiled and her face said it all: She was at peace. She was clearly well-loved up until her final day, which, unfortunately, came three months after her adoption, in December 2017.

Although Honey was with her family for only three months, it was the best three months for her. They gave her a warm and welcoming home during her final moments. She learned once again that love was out there.

Newsweek reached out for additional comment.

‘She Was Loved’

The heartbreaking TikTok video brought people to tears. They were both thrilled she got to live out her days surrounded by love but heartbroken to hear it was only for a few months. Miss Honey’s story had over 50,000 views, 3,128 likes and 78 comments.

“She knew she was loved,” wrote a viewer.

“It’s hard but they so deserve to be loved to the end. They give us everything they have every day of their lives. Thank you,” posted another.

A third added: “Miss Honey was so very loved. I’m so happy she got to spend her final days with you & happy.”

Another commented: “It hurt so much to see her and all those babies who have been mistreated in their life. Thank you for the last months.”
