The home of the late California Senator Dianne Feinstein, who died on September 29 at age 90, has been sold for $9.1 million.
The 3,565-square-foot home is in the gated Seadrift community in Stinson Beach. While the property was initially listed at $8.5 million, it was able to score more than a half-million over asking.
Marc Afzal, a real estate broker and the CEO of Sell Quick California, said the history and story of the home, along with its exclusivity, saw it snatched up quickly.
“This property’s rapid sale is hardly surprising, given its prime location among the 19 exclusive residences lining the picturesque Bolinas Lagoon in the highly coveted Seadrift community,” Afzal told Newsweek. “Remarkably, only three of these sought-after properties have transitioned to new owners in the past decade.”

The first woman elected to the U.S. Senate in California, Feinstein had owned the house at 325 Seadrift Road along with her husband, Richard Blum, who died of cancer in February 2022. Originally after Blum’s death, his half of the trust went to his business associate, Michael Klein.
During the summer, Klein and Katherine Feinstein, the senator’s daughter from a previous marriage, engaged in a lengthy legal fight over the estate. Katherine was listed as Dianne’s power of attorney and wanted to sell the house when Dianne was facing medical expenses due to shingles, while Klein argued that Katherine wanted to sell the home quickly in order to capitalize on her inheritance.
“There is no evidence of what the senator wants,” Steven Braccini, an attorney representing Klein, said earlier this year.
After the senator’s death, a San Francisco Superior Court judge refused to order the immediate sale of the house and sent the case went into mediation this month. Katherine Feinstein filed a request to dismiss the lawsuit following the sale.
“I’m looking for a global outcome if we can get it,” Judge Roger Piquet said during a hearing over the lawsuit, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
On the listing, the estate is described as “one of the most exclusive homes in Marin County.” The property, which was built in 1981, contains large floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of the Bolinas Lagoon
It also contains four bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a sitting room, sunroom, office and great room. The listing says it has 20-foot ceilings and glass doors opening to a 70-foot deck. There’s also a hot tub and side courtyard.
California home prices vary greatly by the area, but the overall real estate market remains one of the most expensive in the United States. Across the state, the median home price was set at $836,110, according to Forbes. However, in the San Francisco Bay area, that average rose to $1.3 million.
