A video showing a dog’s apparent jealousy of a pair of cats’ fluffy trail strokes has left the internet in stitches.

In a viral video uploaded to TikTok on November 29, user Ilyss.rae showed how her dog was jealous of its feline siblings getting their tails petted.

While it might appear to be a minor issue, the dog was in fact a French bulldog and therefore has a stubby tail — seemingly denying it the same petting privileges.

“When your cats have tails and your dog doesn’t but still wants to be part of the pet ritual,” the caption on the video read.

Fortunately for the French bulldog its owner still managed to make it feel included with the same petting experience—although it resulted in some tufts of hair being pulled from what little tail it had.

Newsweek has contacted Ilyss.rae for comment via TikTok.

How to Pet Your Dog

Petting is important for pets, according to North Carolina-based Highland Canine Training LLC, which stressed owners should be aware of how best to show affection to their companion animals.

The dog training business then offered several tips about how to interact with dogs.

  • Approach slowly and maintain a non-threatening posture in order to make your dog feel comfortable.
  • Gauge the dog’s reactions and body language. If they like being petted, the dog might move closer or even paw at you, asking for more.
  • Be aware of petting manners such as how fast and the intensity you are doing it.

Highland Canine Training added that the best places to pet a dog are the base of the neck, under the chin, the shoulders, and on the sides of the body.

It also suggests avoiding petting a dog in the following areas: Ears, tail, paws and muzzle.

Online Reaction to Post

Since being uploaded to TikTok, the clip has attracted more than 866,500 views and over 67,800 likes.

The majority of people who commented on the post noted the small tuft of hair that appeared to come off the dog’s stubby tail at the end of the clip and compared it to their own pets.

TikTok user Leah said: “I love that a little hair came off at the end.”

Meg added: “We call my corgi’s tails his ‘stinger’ since he has hairs that stick out from his nub.”

Robs commented: “The cherry on top is the tiny hairs that you pulled out.”

While Allie posted: “I see how she has no tail, you’ve been slowly stealing it.”
