The moment 8-year-old dog Charlie said a heartfelt goodbye to his canine companion, Foxy, has gone viral on social media.

Shirley Bovshow, the dog’s owner, shared the emotional footage on TikTok. It was filmed after Charlie, a puggle, cuddled into bed alongside Foxy, a Pomchi mix who recently turned 14.

“Charlie surprised me when he wiggled his way into Foxy’s cot! He licked her face as he got in and snuggled up next to her, which warmed my heart,” Bovshow told Newsweek.

Foxy had been battling health issues, including gastro problems and bloody stools, but was doing better. It made it all the more shocking for her family that the video captured their last night with her.

“I had no idea that this would be our last night with Foxy,” said the heartbroken owner. Looking back, Bovshow believes that Charlie knew something they did not. “In hindsight, I believe that Charlie understood the gravity of her illness. They had a strong bond and often communicated each other’s needs to one another,” Bovshow said.

Foxy was due back at the vet clinic the next morning to receive more care for her ongoing illness. However, just moments after arriving, Foxy suffered a major seizure, and her owner was told she wasn’t going to make it.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, Bovshow found solace in the enduring connection she feels to her departed pet. “I am doing better little by little and feel spiritually connected to Foxy,” she said, adding that she has even created a tribute area in her room adorned with Foxy’s mementos.

Charlie was equally shaken by the loss of Foxy, but is thankfully now beginning to adjust.

“He started sleeping in Foxy’s cot, the same cot that he shared with Foxy during their last night together,” Bovshow said.

As time passes, now two months since the loss of Foxy, Charlie’s playful demeanour is returning.

On sharing the heartwarming video with users on TikTok, Bovshow said: “My followers knew and loved Foxy and Charlie.”

As a garden and landscape design expert, Bovshow often featured her pets in educational videos about pet safety around horticulture.

“My audience knew Foxy, and they responded with hundreds of touching condolence messages,” she said.
