Dog Takes Owner’s After Work Routine Very Seriously: ‘Knows the Drill’

A video of a dog that naps “20 hours a day” appearing keen for a snooze with his owner has gone viral on TikTok.

The viral clip was posted by @lokisausage2708 and has had four million views since it was shared three days ago.

A message overlaid on the clip says: “POV [point of view]: Every time you get home from work you go for a nap and your dog knows the drill.”

The footage shows a dachshund waiting at the top of some stairs inside a home. The pup hops upward to the next level of the stairs before waiting in front of a bedroom door. A hand is shown opening the door as the canine enters the room. The pup later appears to be resting on a pillow with his eyes half closed before the video ends.

A caption shared with the post simply says: “Usual routine.”

The pup’s apparent love for napping is unsurprising because canines can spend as much as around half of their days asleep.

Most dogs have two windows of “activity peaks” during the day, noted a study by researchers at North Carolina State University published in December 2020 in Scientific Reports.

One is from around 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., while another is a longer active period from about 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. All dogs were found to be more active during the weekends than weekdays, the study said.

More than half (62 percent) of small dogs and just under half (41 percent) of medium-sized dogs as well as about a third (32 percent) of large dogs were found to sleep with their owners, according to a survey by the American Pet Products Association, as reported by WebMD in April 2012.

As comforting as it might be to cuddle your pooch while napping, dogs may also prevent you from catching a good night’s sleep. A November 2018 study of Australian dog owners published in Anthrozoös, found that: “Co-sleeping appears to cause sleep disturbances (both arousals and wake ups), which is reinforced by poor scores on validated sleep measures.”

‘Asleep All Day’

In a later comment, the dog owner in the latest viral clip said “literally all he does” is sleep. The canine naps “20 hours a day,” the poster said in another later comment, noting that “napping in my bed must just be different” and that he “snores so loud as well.”

Users on TikTok were delighted by the dog’s routine of napping with its owner.

User emmmersx said “he’s like lorrdddd today drained me” and the original poster replied: “He works too hard.”

User @oliviagillamm wrote: “acting like they haven’t already been asleep all day.”

Purrsonalities noted: “He said ‘let’s go finish the nap I’ve been taking all day.'”

Helen Taylor said: “Doggie been waiting for his nap all day.”

User corona8oz wrote: “LOL he’s sleeping like he went to work with you.”

User kavitapillay38 noted: “He worked those shifts with you.”

Elaine said: “His eyes rolling back, he’s so tired from napping.”
