Dog Who Only Ever Knew Apartment Living Reacts to New House—And Backyard

After living in an apartment building for more than a year, this miniature Australian shepherd was excited to see his new home, complete with his very own yard to run around in.

Apartment living isn’t for everyone, and it became even more challenging for Erin Ramirez and Joseph Brennan when they brought 9-week-old Reese home. Puppy training in a confined space was difficult, and “it was a really hard adjustment” at first, Ramirez told Newsweek.

Potty training without a yard wasn’t ideal, and they had to go on extra long walks every day to ensure Reese got all the exercise he needed. But after 14 months, the couple found their dream home in Georgetown, Texas, and couldn’t wait to see the dog’s reaction.

Ramirez said: “Running up and down stairs during potty training and making sure he was safe during those first couple of months was hard. He didn’t know much other than apartment living, and although he didn’t have the freedom to run outside in a yard, it was manageable, and we went on 1-to-3-mile walks daily.

“But seeing him run around his own yard and find his little sleeping nooks has been heartwarming and very fulfilling. We are so excited to continue to document his journey of living in his very own home and having a yard.”

Reese the miniature Aussie sees his new home for the first time. After 14 months living in an apartment, the dog now has a house and yard to run around in.

After filming him run around their new home, Reese’s delighted owners couldn’t wait to share the moment on social media. On March 5, they posted “the most wholesome video” on TikTok (@reesetheminiaussie), and it’s already been viewed more than 6.4 million times and gained over 1.4 million likes at the time of writing, which Ramirez says has “been unreal” to see.

Over 6,200 comments have been shared by people who were brought to tears by Reese’s reaction. One comment reads: “I’m crying, I’m so happy for this dog.”

Another TikToker wrote: “The way he kept looking back at you two for validation.”

While another person said: “He ran in there like a kid running to pick their room.”

It’s only been days but Reese has settled into his new home well, and hasn’t wasted any time in finding “his favorite spots to sleep” and staring out all the windows to observe his new neighbors. As if that wasn’t enough, Ramirez added that the property overlooks a nearby pasture, so Reese can “watch the cows all day long.”

Ramirez loves seeing her best friend adjust to his new way of life with so much more space to roam. Although she also believes that the dog would be “truly happy wherever his people are.”

She added: “We never expected so much to come from sharing a very intimate moment within our little family. We have received many incredible comments and messages. Reese is easily the best thing to happen in my life. He has made it exponentially better, and I can’t wait to keep giving him everything he deserves and more.”
