Laura Loomer has blasted Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado as “too trashy” for Congress after the congresswoman allegedly got into a physical altercation with her ex-husband in public.

Loomer, a far-right activist and staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, took to social media after the Republican congresswoman was accused of punching Jayson Boebert at a restaurant in Silt, Colorado, on Saturday.

“Lauren Hoebert is too trashy for Congress…. And that’s saying a lot,” Loomer wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, alongside a Daily Mail article reporting on the incident.

“On J6 2024, @laurenboebert got into a fist fight with her ex husband in public and the police were called. She is accused of punching him in the face twice. She said he made ‘lewd’ advances on her.”

Newsweek has contacted Loomer for further comment via social media. Boebert’s office and campaign have been contacted for comment via email.

This comes came after a rough year that saw the congresswoman divorce her husband of almost two decades and cause a scandal in September when she and a date were kicked out of a performance of Beetlejuice in Denver after guests complained they were vaping, singing, using phones and causing a disturbance. Boebert initially denied wrongdoing, but security footage that was later released seemingly showed her vaping and she and her date fondling each other. She later apologized, saying she “fell short of my values.”

The Daily Beast first reported that police were called to the Miner’s Claim restaurant on Saturday by Jayson Boebert after he said he was a “victim of domestic violence.”

A Boebert aide told the outlet that the congresswoman had driven to her ex-husband’s home to pick up one of her sons for dinner earlier that evening.

As Boebert and her son were leaving, Jayson Boebert tried to hug her but she put her hand on his chest to keep him at bay, the aide said.

He later called to apologize and asked if he could meet Boebert in person, the aide said. The congresswoman reportedly agreed, but specified that she wanted the meeting to be in a public place.

At the restaurant, Jayson Boebert started “being disrespectful” and getting “lewd,” the aide said. He made an aggressive motion towards his ex-wife “to grab her,” the aide said, and Boebert tried to keep him back and “put her hand in his face, put her hand on his nose.”

The allegation that Boebert had struck her ex-husband was first posted on social media by the American Muckrakers—a Democratic-aligned political action committee—on Saturday night. In a post on X, the group said Boebert “punched” her ex-husband in the nose twice and “then continued to beat him up.”

The congresswoman’s campaign released a statement on Sunday in which she said she “didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested.”

“I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options,” she said.

Silt Police Chief Mike Kite confirmed an investigation into the incident, but declined to release further details, including who called police.

Officers planned to speak with witnesses and ask the restaurant owners for any surveillance video that might have captured what happened, Kite told The Associated Press.

Newsweek has contacted the Silt Police Department via email. Jayson Boebert has been contacted for comment via Facebook.

Boebert announced in December that she was switching congressional districts, leaving the more competitive 3rd District seat she barely won in 2022 to enter the crowded Republican primary for a seat in the eastern side of the state, open with the retirement of Republican Rep. Ken Buck.
