Donald Trump is peddling a new version of a Bible published by Grammy-winning country singer-songwriter Lee Greenwood.

In a three-minute, 15-second Holy Week message posted Tuesday on his Truth Social account, the former president and presumptive 2024 Republican nominee wrote “Let’s Make America Pray Again” and accompanied his message with a video touting a “God Bless the USA Bible,” which costs $59.99.

“It’s very important and very important to me,” Trump says in the video. “I want to have a lot of people have it. You have to have it for your heart, for your soul. Many of you have never read them and don’t know the liberties and rights you have as Americans, and how you are being threatened to lose those rights.

“It’s happening all the time,” he continued. “It’s a very sad thing that’s going on in our country. But we’re gonna get it turned around. Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from our country.”

According to a website for the Bible for sale, the product includes a handwritten chorus to “God Bless the U.S.A.” by Greenwood, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance. The only offering is the King James version, and no translations are available.

The website, which features photos of Greenwood accompanied by Donald Trump Jr., former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and others holding the book, states, “This is the only Bible endorsed by President Trump!”

It also says that this Bible “is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign,” nor is it owned, managed or controlled by Trump, the Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC or any respective principals or affiliates.

“GodBlessTheUSABible.com uses Donald J. Trump’s name, likeness and image under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms,” according to the site.

Newsweek reached out to Greenwood via email for comment.

The promotional messaging by Trump and Greenwood on social media comes one day after Trump seemingly compared his legal plight to Jesus Christ’s persecution. In connection with his New York civil fraud case, where his bond was reduced from the $464 million he originally owed to $175 million, Trump shared a Bible verse, Psalm 109:3–8, on his Truth Social account. It was sent to him by an undisclosed individual.

Trump wrote: “Received this morning — Beautiful, thank you! ‘It’s ironic that Christ walked through His greatest persecution the very week they are trying to steal your property from you. But have you seen this verse…?'” he wrote.

The posts and video were met with ridicule from some Trump detractors.

“Unrepentant grifter Trump is so desperate for cash that he’s selling a ‘God Bless the USA’ Bible,” wrote the X account Project Lincoln. “How much money do you think Trump gets off each sale?”

“One day after he compared himself to Jesus Christ, Trump is now selling a $60 ‘Trump endorsed’ Bible,” Republicans Against Trump posted. “Grifter gonna grift.”

X user Ben Howe responded by quoting another Bible passage, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, which states: “For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.”

Trump appeared Monday at a New York City court hearing on the criminal case charging him with paying hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, with whom he has been accused of having an affair, shortly before the 2016 election. Trump has denied the affair and the allegations that he paid her $130,000 to keep her silent ahead of the presidential vote that year.
