For most dogs, there aren’t enough hours in the day to sleep and they just can’t wait until they eventually get tucked in at night for their well-earned snooze. However, this is not true for one labradoodle, who has left the internet in hysterics with his dramatic reaction to bedtime.

In a video posted by TikTok user Shelly (@mom_life99), Cooper the labradoodle looked very unimpressed about having to retire to his bed, and he even bared his teeth to make a point. Every time his owners tried to lift him off the couch, he made zero effort to budge and groaned at the humans for interrupting him.

Thankfully, Cooper’s owners were able to laugh it off, and they didn’t seem too disheartened by the dog’s stubbornness. Since it was posted on March 17, the video has been viewed more than 6.4 million times and gained over 362,400 likes on TikTok, as social-media users were left in stitches by the grumpy dog.

After Cooper became a viral sensation, many people were curious about his antics. Shelly said in the comments that “he’s just being silly” and would never dare to bite anyone. “He is very dramatic, and he loves attention,” she wrote in another response.

Resource guarding is a common trait among dogs who can become possessive and territorial over their favorite things, including toys, food, and even a spot on the couch. The American Kennel Club (AKC) says that signs of this behavior can include a hard stare, lifting their lips to show teeth, low growling, and stiffening their body.

When this occurs, it usually means they think someone is a threat to their beloved items and they will do whatever it takes to protect those things. However, resource guarding can be problematic, and the AKC encourages owners to start training dogs from an early age to prevent this from happening.

It is vital to avoid any punishment or yelling at the dog because this can actually worsen the behavior. If it is not addressed, the AKC adds that it can even become dangerous in some instances.

As for Cooper, his owner insists that he’s just playing around when he growls and he’s a very affectionate pup most of the time, just not when his evening gets interrupted. Shelly has even continued to post more videos of Cooper to show her TikTok followers just how loving he is when he is not being cranky.

The viral clip has generated almost 5,000 comments at the time of writing, with more people sharing their own experiences of a pet doing this. One comment reads: “my dog does this when he’s comfortable and don’t wanna be moved.”

Another person wrote: “My doodle does this too. I just growl back at him.”

A third commenter responded: “He’s definitely resource guarding that couch, or he just doesn’t respect you. Get that sorted out before he starts doing it to everything else.”
