A social media video produced by an animal shelter in Florida that details why some of its dogs had ended up in its care has led to tears across the internet. The heartfelt clip, which captures several dogs in its facility and gives an explainer as to why each has been given up, has broken hearts online.

The viral video, which has been viewed more than 109,000 times since it was first shared to TikTok on January 6, filmed multiple dogs and attached to them one-line explainers as to why they’d ended up under the care of Humane Society of Broward County.

The reasons given ranged from “my family had no time for me so they gave me up” to “after seven years together my family moved and didn’t take me with them”, while audiences were shown the dogs looking glum in their individual cages.

“As you can imagine, rescue work can be overwhelming. At any given time we can have upwards to 160 pets in our care waiting to be adopted. We do our best to tell the stories of our adoptable pets, in order to give them a better chance at finding a forever home,” digital marketing at Humane Society of Broward County, Susan Leonti, told Newsweek.

“The Humane Society of Broward County is located in Fort Lauderdale and has been advocating for and improving the lives of animals since 1944. We are proud to be able to provide lifesaving care and shelter to over 4,000 homeless pets every year.”

The Humane Society of Broward County has made waves online after sharing a tear-jerking social media video of its resident dogs. The clip shared the reasons why the dogs had been given up.

“In the case of this video, we wanted to show our audience that more often than not pets are given up through no fault of their own. When it comes to reasons for giving up a pet, we’ve heard them all and this video tells just a handful of those reasons,” she added.

Leonti shared that some of the dogs in the viral clip are named Bella, Mako, Kaizer and Pookie. They are all available for adoption and can be seen either online at the shelter’s website or on site at their Florida facility.

The post had been captioned: “Pets are family! Please don’t give up on them. Animals are feeling creatures. They know when their world has been turned upside down and when everything familiar in their life goes away.”

“This is what happened to doggies Mako, Pookie, Cream, Mack, little Bella, Kaizer, Minnie and big Bella. Through no fault of their own, they are now living in a shelter dreaming of new families,” the caption continued.
