Upon arrival, firefighters stabilized one of the vehicles and began the extrication process.

Rescuers used specialized tools to open the crumpled door and remove the centre “b-post”, between the vehicle’s front- and rear-side windows windows, to create more space to remove the driver.

At 8:44 a.m., the driver was safely extricated from the car.

Six people from the two vehicles were taken to hospital with injuries. One adult and one youth were reported in serious condition, while four others, including three youths, were in stable condition.

None of the patients were in life-threatening condition, paramedics said.
