Fox News Contributor Warns Republicans Biden Impeachment ‘Falling Flat’

Fox News contributor Tomi Lahren warned on Sunday that Republicans’ fight to impeach President Joe Biden is “falling flat.”

In December, the House of Representatives voted to launch an impeachment inquiry into the president in a 221-212 vote, with members voting along party lines. Republicans allege that whilst serving as vice president between 2009 and 2017 under President Barack Obama, Biden used his influence to improperly support the business activities of his son, Hunter Biden, from which they suggest he gained financially. The president has said he had no involvement with Hunter’s business dealings and the White House has described the GOP’s impeachment effort as “sad, pathetic and a waste of everyone’s time.”

More recently, Republican efforts to impeach Biden appear to be unraveling after Department of Justice (DOJ) special counsel David Weiss, an appointee of Donald Trump, announced charges against Alexander Smirnov in February for allegedly making false statements and manufacturing false records concerning President Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine.

On Sunday’s Fox News’ Media Buzz, Lahren, who also serves as the host of the evening opinion show Tomi Lahren is Fearless on OutKick, discussed the ongoing impeachment inquiry into Biden, adding that she would encourage Republicans to focus on the 2024 election instead.

“I would encourage Republicans, I know you want to get to the bottom of this, but let’s focus on the election, let’s focus on the failed policies of Joe Biden. This impeachment inquiry unfortunately is falling flat with a lot of viewers and voters,” she said.

Newsweek has reached out to James Comer’s office and the White House via email for comment.

When asked by host Howard Kurtz why Republicans had not come up with proof that impeachment was warranted, Lahren explained that while she believes there is evidence, it’s not coming across in the inquiry.

“That’s going to be the difficult part for Republicans. As someone who does believe there is plenty of evidence here, I think this has failed optically for Republicans and they have done good work. But optically it does make it seem as though they are beating up someone with addiction issues and that’s exactly what the media wanted it to look like, that’s how they framed it and unfortunately that’s what’s coming into fruition,” she said.

Lahren’s comments come after Hunter appeared before Republicans on the House Oversight and Judiciary committees on Wednesday to answer questions relating to the allegations about his father.

In addition, Hunter has been embroiled in legal challenges for years due to his tax history and history of drug abuse. The president’s son is currently facing three gun charges leveled against him by federal investigators, alleging that he lied about his drug use while applying for a firearm permit. These charges were brought after the FBI claimed to have found cocaine residue on a gun pouch that he owned in 2018. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Republican Representative James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said prior to Hunter’s appearance that the Oversight and Judiciary committees “have unearthed substantial evidence of President Biden and his family’s corruption.”

Comer claimed that the Bidens helped create 20 shell companies, mostly during Joe Biden’s time as vice president, allegedly helping business associates in countries including China, Ukraine, Russia, Romania and Kazakhstan make some $30 million.

However, House Democrats have refuted the allegations, saying that Republicans have spent the past five years feeding “lies” to the American public as part of a broader “smear cycle” paid for by American taxpayers—in essence to aid political campaigns.

“In Chairmen [Jim] Jordan and Comer’s ongoing effort to use congressional resources and millions of taxpayer dollars to attack the Biden family, fourteen months of investigation, more than 100,000 pages of documents, and testimony from a dozen witnesses have disproven all of Chairmen Jordan and Comer’s allegations against the President,” a spokesperson for Democrats on the House Oversight Committee previously told Newsweek.

Meanwhile, Comer has made it clear that his committee will continue to investigate Hunter and any ties with the president himself, despite calls from Democrats to conclude the impeachment investigation following Smirnov’s indictment.
