Fox News host Jesse Watters is facing a wave of criticism after telling his co-hosts on air that he “got rid of” one of his dogs.

In a recent segment of The Five, Watters left his co-hosts stunned after the remark, with one exclaiming, “Oh my gosh.”

Another co-host chastised, “Don’t say you got rid of her,” prompting Watters to reply with, “it’s a euphemism.”

Watters didn’t clarify or add context, laughing as his co-hosts pressed him on what happened.

“It didn’t work out,” he said.

Juliet Jeske, founder of Decoding Fox News, shared a clip of the Monday segment to X, formerly Twitter, where it sparked a firestorm of criticism, with many people blasting Watters for making it sound like he had the dog put down.

“Jesse Watters mentioned that he ‘Got rid of his dog,’ because the dog wasn’t working out,” Jeske said in the post. “He did not clarify what happened to the animal even when his co-hosts and fellow dog owners expressed their disgust at his comments. Most animal shelters are at capacity right now.”

The 42-second clip amassed more than 360,000 views and nearly 400 comments since it was posted Monday, as people accused Watters of being a “dog murderer” and “evil.”

“I think Jesse Watters *did* clarify what happened to his dog by saying ‘got rid’ was a ‘euphemism’ and he wasn’t going to go there,” BettyBowers posted on X. “Clearly, he had the dog killed. Like I needed another reason to dislike Jesse Watters.”

Watters could not be reached for comment.

While hosting his show Jesse Watters Primetime the following day, he addressed the criticism his comments ignited on social media, saying that he “didn’t kill” his dog.

“I hope I was clear last night that I didn’t kill my dog,” Watters said. “It’s a euphemism when you say it’s in a better place. Don’t take what I say so literally.”

Watters’ wife, Emma Watters, posted on her Instagram account last month that they added a new member to their family, a Bernedoodle puppy named Duchess.

In the October 11 post, which amassed more than 13,000 likes, she shared photos of the doodle pup and thanked her husband’s co-host Jeanine Pirro, for “leading” them to Duchess. One of Pirro’s dogs and Duchess are siblings.

“Life’s short, get the dog!! Meet the newest member of the Watters family – DUCHESS (Duchy for short)!!! Thanks @judge_jeanine for leading me to her 🩷 (fun fact: Judge Jeanine’s dog and Duchy are sisters ) Love our new Bernadoodle baby,” the post reads.

In the last photo, Jesse Watters is pictured posing with Duchess, believed to be the dog the family “got rid of.”

The Watters family has a mini poodle named Rookie, who has appeared on The Five, including during a 2021 segment where Jesse Watters said, “We love our puppies.”

Jeske posted Wednesday on X that Jesse Watters still hadn’t explained what happened to Duchess.

“He had an entire day and he still didn’t clarify what happened to that beautiful dog,” Jeske posted on her Decoding Fox News X account. “This was posted on a public website. The other dog in the shot is a dog he’s had for years. The black and white dog was purchased about a month ago.”
