Fox News reporter Peter Doocy says the House Oversight Committee has failed to prove that President Joe Biden profited from his son’s business dealings.
Doocy’s report delivered in Washington, D.C., arrived shortly after the Department of Justice indicted Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, on nine charges, accusing him of failing to file and pay taxes, and of submitting a false tax return. It is the second indictment filed against the younger Biden.
The House Oversight Committee has been conducting an impeachment inquiry into President Biden regarding allegations that he intervened and benefitted from his son’s business dealings with China and Ukraine while serving as vice president under former President Barack Obama, including accusations of accepting bribes. The allegations have been denied by the White House and Hunter Biden’s lawyers, with Democrats criticizing the GOP’s impeachment inquiries over failing to find any meaningful evidence against the president.

Doocy echoed those criticisms in a live report on Friday morning.
“The House Oversight Committee has been at this for years, and they have so far not been able to provide any concrete evidence that Joe Biden personally profited from his son Hunter’s overseas business, but they are going to try again with this impeachment inquiry set to start next week,” Doocy said.
Newsweek reached out to House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer’s press office via email for comment on Friday.
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry in September, although the inquiry got off to a rocky start when Republicans decided against voting on the inquiry, given their razor-thin majority. But the GOP is seemingly growing frustrated over the White House’s refusal to comply with some subpoenas, given that no formal vote was taken for the inquiry, according to an NBC News report. Republican lawmakers expect to take a formal vote on the impeachment inquiry next week.
Comer continues to insist that the committee has “mountains of evidence” against President Biden.
Fox News reported on some of the alleged evidence in June when hosting Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who spoke about a “monthly stipend” from a shell company of Hunter Biden’s going to his father and said that the action indicated a “bribe.” However, Fox host Brian Kilmeade pushed back against Marshall’s claims.
“He said he was paying him back for a truck,” Kilmeade said at the time.
Once the House Oversight Committee’s inquiry is complete, the Judiciary Committee will decide whether to draft impeachment articles against Biden. Comer previously said that a vote on the impeachment articles could be held by early 2024.
Doocy is not the first Fox reporter to criticize House Republicans, who have been plagued by infighting for months following McCarthy’s tumultuous speaker election early this year and his subsequent downfall.
In November, Fox News host Trey Gowdy criticized the House as a “disaster,” while in September, Fox anchor Shannon Bream confronted House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik about House Republicans’ “paralyzed chaos” and their low approval rating.
