The adorable moment when one German shepherd got the ultimate Christmas gift has been melting hearts online.

German shepherd Zeus was delighted last Christmas when he got the best gift—a new sister named Luna. Caught on camera, the magical moment has gained viral attention online after their owner posted it on the TikTok account @zeusandlunagsd.

The video, recorded a year ago, begins with Zeus displaying a heightened sense of anticipation. His keen eyes fixate on the door, signaling that something extraordinary is about to unfold. As the door swings open, Zeus is introduced to Luna, a small black German shepherd puppy. In the caption, the poster wrote that it was “the sweetest reaction.”

With more than 3 million views, Zeus’s reaction to his new companion has delighted people on TikTok. As he sniffs his new companion, he instantly recognizes she is about to become a key playmate and falls head over paws for his new sister.

By the end of the short video, the two are adorably sitting side by side, relaxed and comfortable in each other’s presence already.

Not all dogs are so thrilled with the idea of the gift of a new puppy, like when one owner got their Labrador a puppy as an early Christmas gift and it backfired.

In thousands of comments on the latest video, people shared reactions to the heartwarming moment. Dylan wrote, “They’re gonna be best friends 100 percent,” while jenyuo1 posted: “I’ve never seen a puppy so unbothered like the big dog doesn’t even exist to her LOL [laugh out loud].”

The sentiment was echoed by Summer, who commented, “This is the most amazing video I have ever watched in my life,” and SmittenKitten wrote about her admiration for German shepherds as a favorite breed.

If you are planning on introducing a new puppy to your existing canine friend, there are some golden rules it can help to follow.

Last year, Dr. Mary Burch, a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist and American Kennel Club (AKC) Family Dog Director, told Newsweek that it is all about calm and gentle introductions. She said situations should be controlled, starting with an outdoor introduction in a neutral area.

Other suggestions for an easy introduction for your existing dog and a new puppy include taking both dogs on a side-by-side walk with different handlers. Loose leashes and ample room for each dog will reduce tension, and, as things move on, the introduction can be moved to more-enclosed spaces.

Today, Zeus and Luna have over 436,000 followers on their TikTok page where videos and updates are frequently shared.

A year after their first meeting, they are barely ever apart, showing how great Zeus’s very special Christmas gift really was.
