Just like dogs, cats need daily exercise to keep their body and mind healthy, but while some love spending hours outside patrolling their neighborhood, others decide to burn their calories in a different way.

A cat called Bryan, who lives in the United Kingdom, has left the internet in stitches after his owner revealed his passion for a very specific type of exercise, the treadmill. However, the feline will only use it on his terms.

In a viral video shared on TikTok in January under the username @nicolalifts, Bryan’s owners can be seen placing the orange cat on the treadmill, as requested by one of the feline’s followers, who watched his previous clips of him getting on it willingly.

Like every other cat, though, Bryan only does what he wants, whenever he wants. So, in the clip, he slides off the machine without putting in the slightest effort, laying on it, rather than walking over it.

The hilarious clip comes with a caption that reads: “Bryan loves the treadmill, but it has to be his choice!” It is followed by: “That feeling when you hit 10,000 steps… NO MORE NO LESS.”

The vet charity PDSA says that cats are usually good at getting all the exercise they need for the day. However, if your cat is overweight or doesn’t have access to the outdoors, you can help them by introducing a workout routine.

You can start easy with a couple of workout sessions each day lasting between 15 and 20 minutes, and then increase the time once you see they get more enthusiastic about it. Cats are notorious for never following orders, so that’s why it is also crucial that you don’t force them into a routine they are not comfortable with.

The video of Bryan quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 11 million views and more than 1.6 million likes on the platform.

One user, LottieStarCustoms, commented: “The orangest orange cat I’ve ever seen.” And paige posted: “The tuck and roll was a solid choice.”

Xinqul wrote: “The way he just flops is so me.” And Louise Hazeldine added: “That would literally be me at the gym with a personal trainer… This is what they would have to do to try and get me on a treadmill.”

Newsweek reached out to @nicolalifts for comment via TikTok chat. We could not verify the details of the case.
