The moment two dogs helped their owner perform important “surgery” on their beloved stuffed toy has melted hearts online.

Golden Retrievers Hubert and Albert live in Copenhagen, Denmark, with owner Fie Mortensen (@hubertthegoldenretriever), who performed the delicate procedure on their toy.

Captioned “Teddy repair in need ASAP,” the Instagram video depicts the torn stuffed toy laid out on a sterile white pad, surrounded by a makeshift surgical setup, complete with the dogs scrubbed up in surgical hats and masks.

Mortensen, a veterinarian nurse, explains that while she’s accustomed to performing surgeries professionally, she frequently repairs her dogs’ favorite toys as well.

“I have fixed many hundreds of teddies for the two boys. This one was a new toy that they both loved, so we had to try and fix it,” Mortensen told Newsweek.

In the video, 7-month-old Hubert and 9-month-old Albert watch as she preps the toy for surgery and gets to work.

With more than 2 million views on Instagram, people were delighted by the video’s adorable setup.

“The surgical intern on the right is quite distracted,” joked one commenter.

While others loved seeing the pets all dressed up for surgery: “Adorable! This made my day,” said another.

“The best thing I’ve seen all day,” agreed another viewer.

“Oh I needed this giggle,” said another. “Thank you!”

It’s common for dogs to get attached to certain toys. Research shows that dogs store key sensory features about their toys, like how they smell.

The reasons dogs become attached to one toy over another aren’t completely understood, but it is thought to be related to their memory of a happy moment or interaction associated with the toy.

But despite Mortensen’s best efforts, the repaired teddy bear’s fate was short-lived.

“Sadly, it did not survive long after surgery,” she said, explaining that a rather rough playtime had spelled the toy’s end.

Beyond the fun of the repair, though, the overwhelming response on Instagram to the video has been a source of joy and gratitude for Mortensen.

“I’m amazed at all the love for the video. People have sent such kind and sweet messages,” she said. “So I’m sure another teddy will need surgery soon.”
