Goldendoodle and Vizsla’s ‘Budding Romance’ Captured at Doggy Day Care

A vizsla appears to have struck up an unlikely romance with a goldendoodle she met at doggy day care.

In a video posted to social media by The Social Pup, a doggy day care, hotel and spa based in Aurora, Ontario, Canada, the two dogs can be seen exchanging affectionate licks of the snout.

Minnie the 3-year-old vizsla has been coming to The Social Pup since she was 4 months old. “Her favorite activities include playing chase; jumping up on her favorite box, we call her Queen Minnie as she sits atop her ‘throne;’ and sitting on huskies,” Leanne Stevenson from The Social Pup told Newsweek. “Her other favorite pastime is kissing her boyfriend Lando.”

He is the same age as Minnie and has been a regular at The Social Pup since he was 7 months old. “His favorite activities are chasing and wrestling other dogs and, of course, kissing his girlfriend Minnie,” Stevenson said.

Kissing is not the sort of thing you see everyday between two canines and is likely to reignite debate over whether dogs experience complex emotions like love. There is certainly evidence to suggest the animals have a positive chemical reaction in the brain when encountering a familiar and welcome individual, such as an owner.

In 2015, a study published in the journal Behavioral Processes saw 12 unrestrained dogs undergo an fMRI scan while they were presented with five different scents in turn: that of a familiar human, a stranger, a familiar dog, a strange dog, and themselves.

The scent that drew by far the strongest response in the caudate nucleus, an area of the brain associated with positive expectations, was that of the “familiar human.” Some have said that the results add credence to the idea that dogs truly love their owners.

It is therefore entirely plausible that the sight and smell of Lando generates a similarly positive response for Minnie and vice versa. Stevenson said that it was something approaching love at first sight for the adorable dog pairing.

Minnie and Lando’s budding romance started after the latter joined day care. They became fast friends and eventually started to show their affection with kisses soon thereafter.

This isn’t the first time two dogs have struck up a romance on social media. A similar story played out over in Barrie, Ontario, where a dog owner captured the heartwarming moment her rescue husky went on a first date with a new dog girlfriend he met through a fence while out on a walk.

Earlier this month in South Carolina, a golden retriever was filmed enjoying an emotional reunion with his own dog girlfriend after two months apart.

Minnie and Lando’s love has certainly won the backing of the internet if the comments accompanying The Social Pup’s video are to be believed. “Adorable,” one viewer wrote. “My first kiss went a little something like that too,” a second posted, while a third commented: “Geez, get a room.” A fourth user added: “they are so cute.”

The good news for fans of the loved-up pair is that their owners and the staff at The Social Pup have no plans to break the pair up anytime soon. “Minnie and Lando will forever be bonded,” Stevenson said. “We absolutely encourage them to play and enjoy their time together while at day care! Their parents love it, too!”
