A dog called Bristol has melted hearts on the internet after adopting a baby goat that was rejected by his mother.

In a viral clip shared on TikTok on Tuesday by the pets’ owner, under the username bristolloveslucy, the Great Pyrenees dog can be seen taking care of the little goat, giving him love and affection like a real mom.

The heart-warming video comes with a caption that says: “Update on the baby goat that has been rejected by his mama. his mama still wants nothing to do with him. I will be milking her to feed him.

“As far as keeping an eye on him when I am not around… I have an idea for a good helper… Bristol has been a foster mom before, and she is ready to step in when I’m not around. Good girl.”

It is quiet common for animals to adopt other baby animals, but why do they do so? According to Live Science, one reason is that they may be trying to get valuable fostering experience for when their time comes.

Another reason is that the adopting animal hasn’t had any offspring of their own and are “baby-obsessed.”

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1.5 million views and 215,600 likes on the platform.

One user, Willard Squire, commented: “She’s not a step mother, she’s the mother who stepped up.” And Talia said: “Baby goat just sitting there like: ‘I am very confused but also too young to know if this is normal or not.'”
