Jimmy Lai is the billionaire proprietor of Hong Kong’s final opposition newspaper, Apple Every day, and an outspoken critic of Beijing.
On Friday he was sentenced to 14 months in jail for unauthorised meeting – for collaborating in two protests in 2019.
Mr Lai is among the most excessive profile individuals to be arrested beneath Hong Kong’s new nationwide safety regulation, as China tightens its grip on town.
