If you thought only dogs walk on a leash, you’re wrong; some cat owners take their felines for a walk, too. A video of a pet owner getting his kitten ready for a walk has gone viral on social media, melting viewers’ hearts.

In the viral clip, shared on TikTok on Wednesday under the username isheverything, the young man can be seen fitting a harness and leash on his kitten to take him out for a walk, but in the end, it doesn’t exactly go as he hoped.

The poster can be heard saying: “Guys, today I’m taking Fifi out for a walk for the very first time on a leash, and I don’t think he’s looking forward to it. I got this little leash thing over here, it comes with a harness. I used to have rabbits when I was a kid and they all got eaten by foxes so I am very very nervous about taking my favorite ever person outside.

As he fixes Fifi’s paws inside the harness, noticing how big his kitten has become he says: “Guys, look how long he is now! You’re growing so quickly, bro.”

He then goes on fitting the leash: “I think this goes here, we have progressed guys. I swear I’ve had to DIY this leash because this is way too big. You look so cute in your little harness.”

In the end, the kitten takes a few steps on his leash indoors, before giving up and taking a nap by the cat tree, and his owner can be heard saying: “I know you don’t like it but we need to try new things. we’re practicing for the outside world.” Finally, he concludes: “Guys, I don’t think he’s ready still!”

The RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) doesn’t recommend walking cats outside on a leash because they may get stressed and run away or get hurt. However, if you decide to take your cat they suggest using a leash and harness always under direct supervision.

“It is crucial that you attach this to a harness rather than a collar. Cats can easily slip out of collars or may choke if they escape and become entangled. Also, a proper cat harness rather than a dog harness should be used as these are more comfortable and secure,” their website explains.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 768,700 views and 161,800 likes.

One user, asimabutt, commented: “U need to get him the butterfly harness they can slide out of this!”
