The results of an unexpected canine union have gained viral attention after puppies with a dachshund father and golden retriever mother were dubbed “Golden Weiners.”
Shared by owner and TikToker @wildideaswithbrian, a video featuring the puppies has gained over 14 million views since it was shared just two weeks ago.
The star of the show is Tank, a proud Dachshund dad, who finds himself in a rather peculiar situation. The video begins with Tank surrounded by his adorable offspring, prompting his owner to playfully question the unexpected turn of events. “What do you think, Tank? We’ve got all kinds of problems now,” the owner quipped behind the camera.
With a touch of humor, the owner adds, “There’s 10 of them actually. Before some hippy gets on here and yells at me about it, it wasn’t me, it wasn’t my idea. It was his. Huh, Tank—what do you have to say for yourself?”
In response to the video, viewers shared their thoughts in an exploding comment section with over 21,000 responses ranging from well-placed jokes to genuine curiosity.
“But the logistics, how? Did he have a ladder?” joked Alana. While another commenter, Sonny, shared a personal anecdote and said: “I have a dachshund cross French [Bulldog] I call her a French baguette.”
Amid the laughter and astonishment, viewers couldn’t help but notice Tank’s expressions, with one user, Kat, pointing out how guilty he appeared. Teegee chimed in and wrote: “He looks like he gonna ditch his responsibility.”
While TikToker Mary said: “I had a golden retriever dachshund mix 20 years ago! The best dog I ever had! A low-riding Golden Retriever!!” Others marveled at the size of the puppies, with one stunned viewer noting, “They’re almost as big as him!!”

The mix of golden retriever and dachshund isn’t new, though. In fact, the mix is often known as the Golden Dox and is a small to medium dog typically around 20 inches tall and weighing between 30 to 60 pounds.
Earlier this year, golden retriever and miniature dachshund mix Bjorn gained viral attention for his adorable and unusual looks.
Other viewers shared how much the videos had made them want their own “golden wiener” dog: “I never realized how much I needed a golden wiener!!!” said one commenter, while another wrote: “I want a golden low rider.”
