A dog named Sparky has left viewers laughing after a video of his reaction to being picked up from his sitter’s house went viral on social media.

In the viral clip, shared on TikTok in September by the dog’s owner under the username Sparkythegrowler, the Maltese can be seen growling at his owner, who is just trying to take him home from the sitter’s place.

The poster tried delicately to pick him up from his belly but with no luck. The pup kept growling, refusing to leave the sitter’s home even when she tried to help his owner get ahold of him. In the comments, the owner says that Sparky loves it at the sitter’s home, where he’s so far made four cat friends and two puppy friends.

The hilarious clip, which quickly got very popular on social media, has a caption that says: “Sparky protesting leaving the sitter’s house again!”

Sparky might love his sitter so much that he doesn’t want to leave her, but other dogs may not like sitters at all, and sometimes that is due to the sitter. That’s why you should do your research and leave your pet only with sitters you can trust.

According to pet wellness experts at Rover, there are a few signs that can tell you whether a sitter is trustworthy. The first is that they love dogs.

Rover’s website says: “You know how you can just tell when someone’s a ‘dog person’ and a true animal lover? Someone who doesn’t even hesitate to get down on their knees to say hello and receive some wet kisses from a new furry friend, and treats their own pets as another member of their family, no questions asked?

“Well, those are some of the most important values your pet sitter should have. It almost goes without saying, but while you’re away traveling, you want to be sure your pet is in the best hands, and receiving all the love and attention you would give them at home,” the website says.

Another big green flag is that the sitter is professional and knowledgeable. For example, the best pet sitter will always want to meet you and your pet in person before you book your first stay. Moreover, the person will be up front about cost and availability, to avoid wasting anyone’s time.

Most important, good sitters will offer an appropriate living environment for your pet, a place where it can feel safe and comfortable and where it can’t escape.

The video quickly went viral and has so far received over 697,100 views and 25,500 likes on the platform.
