As 15 states hold their primary elections on Tuesday, President Joe Biden is faced with a growing effort by progressives to sway voters to withhold their support and vote “uncommitted.”
Despite the mounting uncommitted effort and being challenged for the party’s nomination by author Marianne Williamson and Representative Dean Phillips from Minnesota, Biden has easily won every Democratic primary election of the 2024 presidential race.
While the specific ballot language for the “uncommitted” vote varies, eight of the 15 states holding Democratic primary contests on Super Tuesday have an option on the ballot to not support Biden or his longshot rivals.
Last week, Biden faced some uncertainty in Michigan, a swing state that he narrowly won in 2020, that now shows increasing discontent among its significant Muslim population over the Biden administration’s support of Israel in its war against Hamas in Gaza. More than 100,000 Michigan primary voters cast ballots for “uncommitted” in protest of Biden.
The momentum of the uncommitted movement has spread to Super Tuesday ballots in Alabama, Colorado, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee and Vermont.

Biden is expected to win in the U.S. territory of American Samoa, which is holding its Democratic caucuses as part of Super Tuesday.

Iowa held an all-mail Democratic presidential caucus, and the race was called by the Associated Press shortly after 6 p.m. Biden received 90.9 percent of the vote while uncommitted garnered 3.9 percent and Phillips got 3 percent.
