Jon Stewart has dubbed Marjorie Taylor Greene a “bridge troll,” mocking the Georgia representative over her recent stunt at the State of Union address.

President Joe Biden addressed Congress on Thursday, with Greene showing up in a “Make American Great Again” hat. The 49-year-old has been a long-time ally of Trump, supporting the former president’s claims of election fraud in 2020 and attempting to impeach Biden.

Stewart shared a clip of Biden approaching the podium at the Capitol during Monday night’s episode of The Daily Show. The 81-year-old was surrounded on all sides by senators, including Greene in her MAGA headwear, matching red blazer and “Biden Border Crisis” pin.

“And so, Biden entered the House Chamber, navigating through our divided congress and barely, barely, getting past the bridge troll who guards the podium,” Stewart said, while the camera zooms in on Greene.

Newsweek has reached out to Jon Stewart and Marjorie Taylor Greene for comment via email.

The Context

Greene was threatened with removal from the State of Union address due to the MAGA hat, but refused to take off the cap following a warning from the Sergeant at Arms.

Congress doesn’t have a strict dress code, although head-coverings of all types were banned from the floor until 2019. However, House rules dictate that government premises should not be used for conducting “campaign or political activities.”

Greene also wore a badge featuring the face of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was reportedly murdered by an undocumented immigrant. The Republican has criticized Biden’s border policy, urging the president to “say her name”—meaning Riley—during the speech.

This is the second time that The Daily Show has hit out at Greene this week over her appearance at the State of the Union address.

The talk show shared a photo of the Georgia Republican’s outfit to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, comparing her attire to the staff uniform at restaurant chain TGI Fridays.

“When you’re a waitress at K.K.K. Fridays,” the image caption read, drawing comparisons to the restaurant chain’s red uniforms adorned with badges.

However, the post sparked backlash, with users accusing The Daily Show of indirectly mocking Riley’s death with the jibe.

Greene is a long-time supporter of Trump. The politician celebrated a “bloodbath” at the National Republican Convention on Thursday after Trump allies took over the event, reportedly leading to significant staff cuts.

“MAGA is now in control of the Republican Party!!” Greene said on X.

In February, she accused Democrats of trying to give Trump a “death sentence.”

Her comments followed the passing of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The 47-year-old was serving time for fraud charges in an Arctic jail when he died, with opponents of Putin believing Navalny’s imprisonment and death were politically motivated.

Greene said Democrats could do the same to Trump, comparing the real-estate mogul’s legal struggles to the charges against Navalny.

The representative also previously backed the 77-year-old’s claims of corruption in the 2020 general election and was at risk of disqualification, along with several other Republican candidates.

However, the Supreme Court ruling in March that determined Trump could not be removed from the Colorado ballot also ended other ongoing eligibility disputes.
