The Princess of Wales’ response when questioned about her competitiveness has featured in a new viral video after footage of her appearance on a rugby podcast with Prince William resurfaced on social media site TikTok.

Kate’s competitive streak has been spotted and discussed by fans on multiple occasions during her time in the royal limelight, usually manifesting publicly at sports events with William.

The couple have gone head-to-head in a number of competitions over the years, including sailing races, spin bike sprints, obstacle course runs, rappelling challenges and even cooking competitions.

The princess’ dedication to secure a win was discussed during her appearance on The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast in September 2023, where she took part in a filmed conversation with William and Princess Anne ahead of the Rugby World Cup.

The three royals were asked questions by the podcast hosts, royal relation (Anne’s son-in-law and former England rugby player) Mike Tindall, former England player James Haskell and broadcaster Alex Payne.

Speaking about taking on sports challenges with her husband, Kate said: “I don’t think we’ve actually managed to finish a game of tennis, the two of us[…]It becomes a mental challenge between the two of us.”

“Yeah,” William responded. “It’s who can out-mental each other.”

The podcast appearance featured the three royals discussing their love of rugby and wider sport in general. Anne was the first British royal to compete in the Olympic Games. She was part of the British team in 1976 and competed in the equestrian disciplines,

Kate and William have made sport part of their royal working output, often praising the mental health benefits of playing in team and individual events.

Discussing his sporting history on the podcast, William told Tindall, Haskell and Payne that he loved rugby and had played it at school. “Did you? Did you?” the prince’s wife joked next to him.

In her discussion, Kate revealed that she was a fan of cold water swimming. “The colder the better,” she said. “I absolutely love it.”

The video clip has received more than 11,000 likes so far and numerous comments, many of which have praised Kate and William for their light-hearted competition.

“Kinda wanna play beer pong with Princess Catherine now! #goals,” wrote one user.

“This is so funny—it’s engaging to get a personal glimpse of their lives,” posted another, with a further comment reading: “This is a great bond they all have.”
