For King Charles III’s coronation on Saturday (Might 6), Buckingham Palace has framed his selection to not have some ceremonial clothes made for the event as a nod to his long-standing curiosity in environmental preservation.

With a royal closet spanning centuries, Britain’s new monarch doesn’t want new garments. Charles will likely be re-using some clothes which have appeared at coronations since 1821, in kinds courting again to the Center Ages, “within the pursuits of sustainability and effectivity,” the Palace stated on Monday.

But, very similar to with vogue, the affect of Charles’ thrifting on the coronation’s sustainability footprint—with all of the plastic bunting, the miles-long procession, the 2000 VIP friends, a lot of whom will seemingly have purchased new garments for the occasion—will likely be marginal at greatest.
