Labrador Patiently Waits to Play Fetch, but There Is a Problem

Plenty of dog breeds have a natural instinct to fetch as they were originally bred to do so, but now, fetching has evolved into a fun pastime that some dogs could play for hours.

One dog asked his baby sibling to play without realizing she was too young. More recently, a Labrador was caught politely asking an unexpected creature to throw the ball.

This Labrador’s owner, who is known on TikTok as @jhrot, saw his dog waiting patiently to play fetch. But instead of asking him to play, the dog recruited someone else. The sweet dog wanted his stuffed animal octopus to play.

The thought was smart because, well, the more arms the creature has, the more time spent playing fetch. Too bad this dog was met with a problem: The stuffed animal, of course, cannot throw.

A Labrador looks at the owner begging to play. The dog wanted to play fetch with a toy that isn’t a typical choice for fetch.

The caption of the January 31 TikTok video reads: “Sometimes I’m in awe of how clever he can be and other times I’m embarrassed for him tbh.” Hey, the thought was there.

Viewers have flooded the comment section with demands the owner step in, especially since the dog was asking ever-so-sweetly.

“The octopus will be able to throw the ball if you just give it a little help,” said one user.

Another added: “That octopus either needs to start paying rent or throw Alfie his damn ball!”

Maybe the dog knows something humans don’t, as a person pointed out: “The octopus throws the ball, just not when you’re there.” So Toy Story was right all along?!

Now, before more users get agitated, the owner made it right and told Newsweek that he “stood in for the octopus.” Although, it better have been an extra long playing session with the dog to make up for having him wait.

Benefits of Fetch

Even as your arm gets exhausted from throwing the ball again and again, keep in mind that playing fetch is very beneficial for dogs. It makes them feel like they have a sense of purpose, satisfying their need to be useful.

Plus, playing fetch is an incredible way for dogs to get exercise. Wag! encouragesowners to play fetch as it keeps dogs occupied without them ever realizing they are exercising. They are in a major state of euphoria while playing fetch.
