Dog owners will try their hardest to keep their fur babies away from mud and dirt since it’s a total headache getting them clean. But once a dog has their mind made up about getting paw deep in dirt, there is virtually no stopping them.

A viral TikTok video proves the point that dogs do not think of their actions and will get in stickiest of situations after a dachshund managed to walk through a wet pile of concrete. As the worker tried to get the dog out, the canine had other plans by barking and jumping around.

The dog was making a mark on the cement, completely destroying the perfectly flat surface that was just laid down. As one TikTok user wrote, they are going to need a power washer to clean the dog after they finally figure out a way to get it out.

The October 19 video posted by @juan24mb has racked in 9.4 million views and 337,000 likes so far, with users commenting that this is typical dachshund behavior.

“This is the most dachshund response to being rescued,” wrote one user.

Another TikTok user added: “Baby wanted that full mud mask experience.”

Why Dogs Like Playing in Dirt

You beg and plead with your dog to not run over to the muddy section during your walk, but their selective hearing kicks in. They walk straight through the puddle, back-and-forth, muddying up their paws and legs. They’re about to roll on their backs before you finally jump in and pull them away.

Similar situations of dogs playing in the dirt or mud have happened forever. It’s a completely normal reaction for dogs, but you might be wondering why dogs even do this in the first place.

One reason for this is that dogs want to spread their scent in the dirt or grass as they’re rolling around. It is a way for them to mark their territory. They also might do this after a bath because soaps and shampoos can mask their scent and dogs prefer to smell natural, according to Pet Keen.

Dogs might also roll in the dirt to cool off, scratch an itch, or simply to play. There’s no doubt that this behavior can be frustrating, but remember, it’s a natural behavior for dogs. To keep some of the dirt out of the house, PeetKeen advises that dog owners use a doormat, wash their paws, trim their coat, or have them wear boots.
