A cat who has become a babysitter to his owner’s little kitten has left the internet in stitches after getting caught on camera finding a way to take a break from the kitty.

In the viral clip, shared on TikTok on Saturday by the cats’ owner, under the username Maxthekitty, Max the cat can be seen leaving his little sibling, Vinnie, who he usually cares for, trapped inside an indoor cat house, topped with a pillow to prevent him from getting out, as their owner rushes to the kitten’s rescue.

The hilarious post, which quickly went viral on social media, comes with a caption that says: “When you’re fed up of looking after the little one.” Followed by: “Max has become a pro babysitter.”

According to Vets4Pets, while cats live well in households with other cats, most of them don’t really need a feline companion to be happy, and may even struggle to accept them at first.

However, this shouldn’t put you off getting a new kitten. As long as you prepare well in advance and take all the necessary steps to ensure each cat is considered during the kitten’s arrival, you shouldn’t have to worry too much.

The first step is to get the house ready for the new addition to the family, making sure that your existing cat has a place to isolate whenever they may need it. Before physically introducing them, you should get your cat used to the smell of the new kitten.

Only then you can start with your face-to-face introduction, and their encounters should always be monitored, at least until you know for sure that the kitten has been accepted by their big sibling.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 944,600 views and 87,200 likes on the platform.

One user, mrsbower2016, commented: “Does he babysit for a living cause I think I want to hire him.” And Laura joked: “I have no idea how he got in there…”

Nabehadhar wrote: “Glad it’s not just mine, my older kitty locks her little brother in the bathroom every night.” And Heather Ely785 added: “Mine will trap them in a box then sit on top of it so they can’t get out. I heard the baby screaming from outside and ran inside to the adult looking all innocent. lol.”
