A dog’s Oscar-worthy performance has left the internet in stitches in a viral video shared on TikTok.

Coach, a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever, has stolen the spotlight with his uproarious reaction to a common wound-care spray. The video, posted on December 19 by TikTok user @trashlobster, has garnered more than 1.1 million views and counting, sparking a wave of laughter from animal lovers.

The Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever, also known as the toller, is a medium-sized gundog breed primarily used for hunting. Often mistaken for a small golden retriever, they are known for their intelligence and playful nature but do need plenty of mental and physical stimulation. The American Kennel Club (AKC) says they are the 81st most-popular dog breed in the U.S.

The clip captures Coach’s over-the-top response to a topical wound-care spray designed for various animals, including dogs. The spray, known for its effective and non-toxic formula, is used to clean and protect minor wounds, cuts, abrasions, skin irritations, and scratches. However, it seems that Coach is not a fan of the product’s scent.

Coach visibly recoils at the sight of the wound-care spray, shaking his head, turning up his lip and even pretending to gag. In the text overlay on the video, the owner wrote, “Coach worked harder for his Oscar than Leonardo DiCaprio,” and in the caption, she added: “It’s the fake gagging for me.”

The video’s comment section is flooded with reactions from amused viewers sharing their thoughts on Coach’s theatrics. User itsybitsy wrote about the canine sense of taste and memory, saying, “The gagging made me realize that dogs likely have memories of taste(s). Doesn’t need to be open for a dog to smell it, and he’s over it! The gagging.”

User Kandey posted, “Me when I see a bottle of tequila,” highlighting the universal theme of being repulsed by certain scents.

Jennifer Gregory, another commenter on the viral video, shared her surprise at Coach’s acting: “I thought my dog was dramatic.” User malgsu10 recognized the breed’s flair for drama and wrote: “Tollers are so dramatic. Mine are too haha.”

This isn’t the first time a dog has gained viral attention for their dramatics, either. Staffordshire bull terrier Scrappy left people in stitches with the dramatic way she demands to be let inside, and bull terrier Russell was branded a drama queen, thanks to his unique approach to games of fetch.

It isn’t just dogs, either. Cats also get in on the dramatic action, including Simba who throws a tantrum when his owner takes him outside. There was also Snowie, who gives a seriously Oscar-worthy performance when she is forced to wear a harness.
